New Zealand teams will wear Marvel-inspired jerseys during the ‘kids round’ of Super Rugby Pacific this weekend.
The Blues (Spider-Man), Chiefs (Black Panther), Crusaders (Iron Man), Highlanders (Hulk) and Hurricanes (Captain America) have all selected their favourite super hero as part of a two-year deal with apparel sponsor Classic Sportswear.
The concept is not new, with South African franchises – Bulls (Captain America), Lions (Spider-Man), Sharks (Black Panther) and Stormers (Thor) – having worn Marvel-themed jerseys during 2019 Super Rugby and for the pre-season 2020 Super Hero Saturday.
Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley said the campaign targeted “second generational fans” across New Zealand and was important for the growth of the game.
