Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma have finally ended their marriage, with their divorce being finalized on Thursday (March 20, 2025). Lawyer Nitin Kumar Gupta, who represented Chahal, confirmed the news according to ANI reports.
The family court approved the mutual petition presented by both parties, rendering them legally separated.
Divorce proceedings and alimony settlement
The couple, who had been staying apart for more than two and a half years, agreed on alimony terms mutually. Chahal will pay his former wife INR 4.75 crore, of which Rs 2.37 crore have already been paid as part of the settlement. The balance would be paid as permanent alimony after the divorce was finalized, as directed by the court.
Chahal and Verma had filed a joint petition for divorce on February 5, mentioning “compatibility issues” as the main ground. Since they had been separated for so long, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Madhav Jamdar exempted the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, expediting the legal process. This order set aside an earlier ruling by the family court on February 20, which had declined to exempt the statutory cooling period under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act.
Legal developments and High Court’s decision
The Bombay High Court stepped in on Wednesday, overturning the family court decision and ordering a speedy resolution. The court noted that both Yuzi and Dhanashree were in consensus regarding the divorce conditions, paving the way for any legal obstacles. The judge also added that since a good part of the alimony had already been made, the rest could be paid after finalization.
Chahal’s public outings ahead of divorce hearing
Chahal did not let his courtroom battles slow down his public outings as he was spotted with RJ Mahvash in Dubai during the India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 2025 final. Though rumours are rife regarding his personal life, neither the leg-spinner nor the woman in question has confirmed a new relationship.
The cricketer, who was acquired by Punjab Kings at IPL 2025 auction for a whopping INR 18 crore, is set to represent his new franchise in the upcoming season of the tournament. He was the costliest spinner at the auction, reflecting his ongoing worth in T20 cricket.

A look back at Yuzi and Dhanashree’s relationship
Yuzi and Dhanashree got married in December 2020 in a highly publicized wedding. However, trouble in their marriage began soon after, and the two decided to live separately in June 2022. For the last two and a half years, they have been living separately, eventually deciding to legally end their marriage.
Now that the court has sanctioned their divorce, Chahal and Dhanashree are free to go their separate ways. While Chahal prepares for the next IPL season, Dhanashree will presumably remain engaged in her dance and content creation business.
This judicial seal of closure on their relationship is the end of their being together as a couple, but both of them are still under the limelight for their respective exploits.
