Former Springbok defence coach Brendan Venter is set to play a consulting role for Western Province’s Currie Cup team.
WP finished a dismal seventh on the eight-team log last year, with just three wins from 10 matches.
According to Rapport, Venter – the 17-Test Springbok and medical doctor who previously coached at Saracens, the Sharks, London Irish, the Italian national team and the Boks – will help WP Currie Cup head coach Labeeb Levy.
Dewaldt Duvenage and Brok Harris will be Levy’s assistant coaches. Both are making the transition from playing to coaching careers, with 36-year-old scrumhalf Duvenage returning to Cape Town in 2024 after a six-year stint with Benetton in Italy and 40-year prop Harris hanging up his boots at the end of the season.
