Wolves 2-0 Manchester United: Red Devils beaten again

Molineux witnessed a dramatic finale as Wolves secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, courtesy of two late goals.

Matheus Cunha orchestrated the win, scoring one and assisting another, as Wolves climbed further away from the relegation zone.

The first half was a closely contested affair, with Cunha a constant threat for Wolves, his skill and movement often causing problems for the United backline.

In the 17th minute, he forced a save from Onana after a well-worked move.

United responded with Dalot’s curling effort being tipped away by Jose Sa in the 20th minute.

Wolves continued to press, with Jorgen Strand Larsen’s header forcing another save from Onana in the 25th minute. Guedes then fired narrowly over from distance in the 23rd minute.

The second half began with Bruno Fernandes receiving a straight red card in the 47th minute for a late challenge on Nelson Semedo.

This reduced Manchester United to ten men and significantly shifted the momentum in Wolves’ favour.

Almost immediately, Wolves thought they had taken the lead when Strand Larsen finished from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR check. .

The breakthrough finally came in the 58th minute in spectacular fashion. Cunha’s corner kick evaded everyone, including Onana, and nestled into the far corner of the net.

The Manchester United goalkeeper’s protests for a foul were waved away, and Wolves took a deserved 1-0 lead. Cunha’s goal marked his third consecutive Premier League strike.

Manchester United attempted to respond, making a series of substitutions to inject fresh impetus into their attack.

However, Wolves remained resolute in defence and continued to pose a threat on the counter-attack.

In the 69th minute, Strand Larsen had Goncalo Guedes available in the middle, but his pass was gathered by Onana. Antony then fired a shot just wide for United in the 71st minute.

As the clock ticked down, Manchester United pushed forward in search of an equaliser, leaving gaps at the back.

But in the dying moments of stoppage time, Wolves sealed the victory with a swift counter-attack. Cunha was released behind the United defence and unselfishly squared the ball to Hwang Hee-Chan, who calmly slotted the ball past Onana into the top corner.
