With a 126-114 loss to the Cavs on Thursday night, the Nuggets are now 11-9 in 2024-25. The team is 4-6 in their last 10 and Nikola Jokic is carrying the team on many levels. The 29-year-old is averaging a 30-point triple-double this season for Denver. However, he needs consistency from his teammates if the Nuggets want to be legitimate contenders in the West.

In their loss to the Cavaliers on Thursday, Jokic had 27 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists. That was his eighth triple-double in 17 games this season. Additionally, that was his 139th career-triple double. Jokic passed NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and now has the third-most triple-doubles in NBA history. The three-time MVP continues to etch his name in the record books and proves he’s one of the best European players we’ve ever seen.

Nikola Jokic had his eighth triple-double of the season on Thursday

During the second round of the 2014 NBA draft, the Nuggets selected Nikola Jokic out of Serbia. The big man played overseas and started his career with the Nuggets in 2015-16. His 2018-19 campaign was a breakout year and it was when Jokic started to gain national attention as one of the best centers in the league. Since that season, Jokic has been named an all-star six consecutive times and has won three league MVPs. He also helped lead Denver to its first-ever NBA title in 2023.

Through 17 games in 2024-25, Jokic is averaging (29.9) points, (13.4) rebounds, (10.4) assists, and (1.8) steals. He came extremely close in 2022-23 to averaging a triple-double for the season with (9.8) assists per game. While Nikola Jokic is playing at an MVP level once again, his Nuggets teammates need to step it up. The last thing the team wants to do is waste a season by not making a deep playoff run. It’s still early in 2024-25 but Denver has some serious flaws they need to fix. An east one the team can change is shooting more three-pointers per game. They are dead last this season at (31.0) three-pointers attempted per game. Denver’s next game is Saturday night on the road against the Wizards who have lost 16 in a row.
