Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The two captains, Riyan Parag and Pat Cummins revealed the impact players in their lineups for the match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, March 23.
Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and opted to field. Young all-rounder Riyan Parag will lead the Royals in the first three matches in the absence of Sanju Samson, who will play as an impact player due to injury. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga failed to make it into the Jaipur-based franchise’s playing XI.
Getting to Fill in Big Shoes, Very Excited – Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag said that the wicket looked dry and might be better for batting later. Speaking about his temporary captaincy, Parag acknowledged the responsibility of filling big shoes. He highlighted that the impact player rule allows Sanju Samson to contribute despite his injury.
“Bowling first. Looks like a dry wicket so we’ll have a crack at it later. (On captaincy) Means a lot, started here as a 17 year old. Getting to fill in big shoes, very excited. The impact rule helps with Sanju. We’ve retained a lot of our core so that helps with the batting order. The other three overseas will be Theekshana, Jofra and Farooqi. Always good to start well, we have practiced a lot,” Riyan Parag said.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins stated that the toss outcome did not matter much. He hoped to carry forward last season’s form and urged players to play with freedom.
“It is great to be back. The core of the group is the same, the coaching staff is the same. Don’t think batting or bowling first matters. It is pretty hot, so don’t mind bowling second. Would be nice to keep last season’s form going,” Pat Cummins said.
“We always encourage our games to play with freedom. Abhi and Heady with hopefully continue from last year, and Nitish and Klassen are there as well. Ishan Kishan and Abhinav Manohar will be making their debuts,” he added.
