Virat Kohli creates history with incredible ‘century’ during RR vs RCB clash

Virat Kohli, on Sunday (April 13), added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap after reaching his fifty during the game between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. In response, the home side posted a challenging total of 173/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with the bat for the Royals, scoring 75 runs off 47 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Riyan Parag (30) and Dhruv Jurel (35*) also played important knocks for the inaugural IPL champions. For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal, Krunal Pandya, and Hazlewood picked up a wicket each.

Set a target of 174 runs, RCB came out all guns blazing thanks to Phil Salt’s aggressive batting. While the England star fired on all cylinders from the very start, Virat Kohli played the role of the second fiddle to perfection.

At the end of the powerplay, RCB had raced away to 65 for no loss. Salt completed his fifty in just 28 balls in the eighth over. He and Virat Kohli added 92 runs in less than 9 overs. Kumar Kartikeya broke the stand by dismissing Salt for 65.

After Salt’s departure, Kohli took charge of the innings and he too completed a fine fifty. He completed his third fifty of the season in style by smashing Wanindu Hasaranga for a six in the 15th over. The former RCB captain completed his fifty off 39 balls.

And as soon as Kohli completed the fifty, he created history. The Indian batting superstar became the first-ever batsman from Asia to hit 100 half-centuries in T20s. Former Australia batsman David Warner is the only other batsman with 100 or more fifties in the shortest format of the game.

Warner has hit 108 half-centuries in T20s so far while Kohli has 100. Pakistan’s Babar Azam is at the third spot with 90 fifties while Chris Gayle (88) and Jos Buttler (86) complete the top five.
