The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was host to a blockbuster clash between the India National Cricket Team and Bangladesh National Cricket Team on Thursday (20th February). The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai and it saw the Rohit Sharma-led side starting the tournament on high.
Asked to bat, Bangladesh were off to the worst possible start with the bat as Indian seamers Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana struck in the first few overs before Axar Patel took two wickets on two balls and was about to take a hat-trick, but Rohit Sharma dropped the catch in slips.
Bangladesh post a total of 228 runs on the back of century Towhid Hridoy, Mohammed Shami takes fifer for India
This saw Bangladesh come under massive pressure and were left reeling at 35 for five. It was then when Jaker Ali (68) and Towhid Hridoy (100) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble. The duo added 154 runs for the sixth wicket, which was the highest for the team against India in ODIs.
While Jaker got out at the end, Hridoy went on to hit a terrific century, and based on his innings, Bangladesh went on to post 228 runs, which didn’t seem possible at one moment. For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a fifer in the first game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Shubman Gill slams terrific century, takes India home with 6 wickets
In the chase, Rohit Sharma (41) took India off to a flying start with his aggressive mindset. He, along with Shubman Gill (101*), added 69 runs for the opening partnership, putting Bangladesh bowlers under pressure.
Virat Kohli (22) walked out to bat at three but couldn’t score runs freely. India came under pressure when Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8) lost their wickets early and run scoring was made hard for the Men in Blue with spinners bowling tight lengths.
But Gill carried his bat through and slammed a magnificent century, his second consecutive in the ODIs. KL Rahul (41*) supported him well as the duo put on an 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take India home with six wickets and gain confidence going into the Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
