Edinburgh coach Sean Everitt is relishing the opportunity to make it three wins in a row against SA teams when the Sharks visit Hive Stadium on Friday in the Vodacom URC.
Everitt looked ahead to the round 15 URC clash against his former team, in what his players have dubbed “the Biltong Series” following EPCR Challenge Cup playoff victories over the Lions and Vodacom Bulls.
“We’ve got three South African teams in a row and the guys are labelling it the Biltong Series!” he told The Scotsman after last week’s quarter-final against the Bulls. “We’re two up and we’ve got another one to go so we’ve got to focus.”
Saturday’s victory propelled Edinburgh into a Challenge Cup semi-final against Bath, but Everitt is on Sharks alert.
STATE OF THE URC: Tough tours to test Bulls, Sharks
“There’s a lot of rugby to be played before then,” he said. “We’ve got the Sharks next week and that’s got to be our focus now.”
The encounter carries particular significance for Everitt, who spent 14 years in the coaching structures at The Shark Tank. His knowledge of the Sharks could prove invaluable as Edinburgh seek to derail the Durbanites’ URC top-four league finish push.
The Sharks travel to face Edinburgh, and then Ulster, with renewed purpose after coach John Plumtree sacrificed their Challenge Cup defence to rest key players.
He also holds the advantage with two victories over Everitt’s Edinburgh at Kings Park last season, but Friday’s match marks the first duel on Scottish soil between these two coaches.
