Stormers boss John Dobson is reportedly set to make a bold call at No 9 for Saturday’s North-South derby against the Vodacom Bulls in Cape Town.
According to Netwerk24, scrumhalf Paul de Wet, who is expected to join the Bulls next season, may not feature in the match-day 23. Instead, Stefan Ungerer is tipped to start, with Herschel Jantjies on the bench. Jantjies is also departing at the end of the season for French club Bayonne.
With Ungerer likely to stay in Cape Town, Dobson’s selection could be a forward-thinking move, but Vodacom URC title-winner De Wet has been a key attacking weapon, known for his support play and quick breaks.
Meanwhile, Dan du Plessis is expected to return in the midfield despite a health scare. The 25-year-old was hospitalised last week with an E. coli infection, reportedly picked up while swimming in Camps Bay. Having recovered, he is set to play his first game since November.
The Stormers will confirm their squad on Friday.
