It is the second final in Cardiff this weekend, with Northampton Saints taking on Bordeaux Begles
Rugby fans have taken over Cardiff ahead of the Champions Cup final.
Bordeaux Begles take on Northampton Saints in the showpiece event of Europe’s premier competition. This fixture follows the EPCR Challenge Cup final, which took place on Friday night.
French and English rugby supporters have flooded the streets of Cardiff, with Westgate Street packed to the hilt with rugby fans bearing flags and singing.
There were similar scenes on Friday night, with Lyon fans packing out St Mary Street before and after the big European clash. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack to get exclusive news stories and insight from behind the scenes in Welsh rugby.
With supporters flooding the streets, it wasn’t without its drawbacks, however, with the Saints team bus delayed arriving at the city centre venue.
Northampton Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson, spoke to BBC Sport after their team coach arrived late: “Yeah it’s a bit frustrating but not masses we can deal with.
“The medics will get us strapped and we’ll get through and we’ll make sure we warm up appropriately.
“I’m still unsure as to why they didn’t put the sirens on and just get us through traffic a bit quicker, but there you go.”
As well as the final being held at the Principality Stadium, the European competition has a fan zone for supporters in Cardiff – the Champions Rugby Village.
Held at the Cardiff Arms Park, the venue has food and drinks on sale, with live entertainment and rugby legends in attendance.
The final kicks off at 2.45pm at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
