Veteran Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, currently turning heads with his consistent performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, recently appeared on The Ranveer Show hosted by YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia. In a deeply personal and relaxed conversation, the 34-year-old swing specialist discussed everything from his early cricket memories to his cricketing inspirations and IPL loyalties. Known for his calm demeanor and disciplined lifestyle, Bhuvneshwar offered a rare glimpse into the lesser-known stories behind his journey from a young boy in Meerut to one of India’s most reliable pacers.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals his favourite IPL team
Bhuvneshwar candidly confessed that his first favourite IPL team was not the one he would later shine for, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but rather Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the reason had nothing to do with cricketing strategy or player composition. It was Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan who won his loyalty. Bhuvneshwar recalled how, back in 2008 during the inaugural IPL season, he supported KKR solely because of SRK’s association with the franchise. He admired Khan’s charm, humility, and the way he interacted with people.
“In 2008, I supported KKR due to Shah Rukh Khan – he is so humble, talks very normally like a best friend. He also listed some of his all-time favorite SRK films, including Ram Jaane, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Koyla, and Duplicate,” Bhuvneshwar said.
Favourite cricket players and movie
When asked about players he looked up to, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar topped Bhuvneshwar’s list. He admired Sehwag for his fearless approach and Tendulkar for his discipline and consistency.
“Sehwag was someone I loved watching. The way he played without fear was incredible. And Sachin sir… everyone’s idol,” the 35-year-old added.
Bhuvneshwar also revealed that his favourite cricket film is Iqbal, not for the cricketing action but for the emotional realism and struggles portrayed.
“Iqbal is my favourite because it shows the journey of a cricketer beyond just cricket. It’s about pressure, family expectations, and chasing dreams despite setbacks. That’s something I truly related to,” the fast bowler stated.

Current form in IPL 2025 with RCB
After a long and successful stint with SRH, Bhuvneshwar was acquired by RCB for a hefty sum of INR 10.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Many questioned the decision at first, given his age and recent injury concerns, but Bhuvneshwar has proven to be a shrewd acquisition.
In five matches so far, he has picked up six wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 7.84, impressive for someone often tasked with bowling during the Powerplay and at the death. The team currently sitting third on the points table, having won four out of their six matches, Bhuvneshwar is once again playing a vital role in his team’s campaign. RCB’s next match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 18 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium promises to be another big moment for him to showcase his class.
