Raptors’ Scottie Barnes will miss several weeks with an ankle injury he suffered on Monday

Basketball

On Monday, the Raptors lost 113108 at home vs. the Knicks. Toronto is 4-6 in their last 10 and is on a three-game losing streak. For the 2024-25 season, the Raptors are 7-18. That is 14th of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference. In that loss to New York, forward/guard Scottie Barnes suffered an ankle injury.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Barnes will miss several weeks with an ankle injury he suffered on Monday. That’s a massive blow to Toronto’s roster moving forward. Barnes is in the middle of his best professional season and now the Raptors are losing production on offense and defense. The Raptors were already struggling to compete in the East and this doesn’t help. Their next game is Thursday on the road vs. the Heat.

Scottie Barnes will miss several weeks with an ankle injury for the Raptors

With the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Scottie Barnes was selected by the Raptors out of Florida State. He’s played in 225 career games over four seasons and has 224 starts. In 2021-22, Barnes averaged (15.3) points, (7.5) rebounds, (3.5) assists, and (1.1) steals per game. That was enough for Barnes to win Rookie of the Year. During his 2023-24 campaign with the Raptors, Barnes was named an all-star for the first time in his career.

Through 14 games in 2024-25, Barnes was off to the best start in his career. He was averaging (20.6) points, (8.4) rebounds, (7.4) assists, and (1.3) steals per game. His points, rebounds, and assists per game were all career-highs. Unfortunately, Barnes suffered an ankle injury on Monday and will miss several weeks for the Raptors. Not ideal for a team that is 11 games under .500 through their first 25 games. There is no definitive timetable for how long Barnes will be out. The Raptors will need other players to step up and help replace the all-star-level production of Barnes.
