It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly – Pat Cummins
Sunrisers Hyderabad were invited to bat first in the match and they ended up with a total of 190/9 – which was below-par. SRH batters were stunned by LSG pacer Shardul Thakur, who bagged a 4-wicket haul.
With the ball, SRH picked the early wicket of Aiden Markram, but Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh took them to the cleaners. Even though they managed to pick a few quick wickets, LSG crossed the finish line in 16.1 overs.
Speaking after the match, the SRH skipper Pat Cummins blamed the pitch for their loss and said:
“It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly. They batted really well though. Still a very good wicket, that was the best wicket in the world, this was the second-best wicket.”
We will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on – Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins credited Lucknow Super Giants bowlers for executing their plans really well and lauded his batters for managing to post a good total on the board. He stated:
“It gripped a little bit, but it was a nice wicket. Every time it’s a fresh game, they bowled really well, it was very well planned. It was a pretty good effort to get to 190.”
Pat Cummins further said that they needed a batter like Ishan Kishan to bat deep like the last game and signed off by saying that they will move on from the defeat as it is a long competition. He stated:
“You always need one person to bat throughout the innings, like Ishan (Kishan) did the other day, but they bowled really well, never let us off the hook. We got 8 batters, it’s about going out there and making an impact. You see things you could have done better, that could have been the difference. It’s a long competition, we will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on.”
How did SRH perform in the previous IPL match against LSG?
Sunrisers Hyderabad last locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants in the 57th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 on May 8 in Hyderabad. They absolutely crushed LSG to secure a 10-wicket win.
After being invited to bowl first, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers did a good job and restricted the opposition to 165/4. The premier pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, struck early blows, removing Quinton de Kock (2) and Marcus Stoinis (3) within the powerplay and finished with remarkable figures of 2/12 in four overs. Other than Bhuvneshwar, only Pat Cummins managed to bag a wicket for SRH.
Chasing the target, SRH was nothing short of spectacular. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma unleashed a brutal assault, bringing up their fifties in just 16 and 19 balls, respectively. Their 167-run opening stand in just 58 balls shattered multiple records as they finished the run-chase in 9.4 overs.
Head’s unbeaten 89 runs off 30 balls featured 8 sixes and 8 fours, while Abhishek’s 75* runs off 28 included 8 fours and 6 sixes.
