Norway left it late to edge past Finland 2‑1 to become the first team to make the knockout stages of Euro 2025.
The hosts could not have wished for a faster start. With just three minutes on the clock, pressure down Norway’s right forced an own goal from Finnish centre‑back Eva Nystrom, whose attempted clearance flashed beyond goalkeeper Anna Koivunen and into the net.
That slice of misfortune stunned the visitors but also jolted them into life; Finland began to dominate possession, utilising the intelligent movement of striker Linda Sallstrom and the creativity of midfielder Eveliina Summanen.
Finland’s equaliser arrived on 32 minutes and was beautifully worked. Oona Siren split the Norwegian back line with a defence‑splitting pass and fellow youngster Oona Sevenius applied a composed left‑foot finish high into the top‑right corner.
Moments earlier, Norway had almost doubled their advantage when Ingrid Syrstad Engen’s towering header thudded against the crossbar, but Sevenius’ strike ensured the sides went in level at the break.
Norwegian head coach Hege Riise reacted by introducing Signe Gaupset and Lisa Naalsund for the second half in place of Frida Maanum and Vilde Boe Risa.
The changes brought fresh impetus yet Finland continued to threaten. Summanen saw one long‑range drive tipped wide by Cecilie Fiskerstrand, while Katariina Kosola twice tested the keeper from distance.

With the clock ticking down, Norway finally rediscovered their cutting edge. On 84 minutes, Guro Reiten gathered a loose ball in midfield and slid a perfectly weighted pass into the channel.
Hansen, who had been lively all evening, cut inside from the right and rifled an angled right‑foot shot across Koivunen and into the far corner to make it 2‑1.
Finland poured forward in search of a second equaliser, forcing successive corners deep into added time.
Substitute Olga Ahtinen orchestrated the late push and Joanna Tynnila lashed a speculative effort over the bar, but Norway’s rearguard withstood the pressure.
Switzerland keep progression hopes alive
Switzerland left it late but eventually broke down a stubborn Icelandic defence to claim a 2-0 win and keep their Euro 2025 campaign alive.
The first half was a stop-start affair, with both sides battling for midfield control. Iceland looked the more dangerous early on, almost taking a shock lead inside the first minute when Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir rattled the crossbar with a powerful drive from close range.
Switzerland responded through Julia Stierli, whose header from a corner went just over.
Chances continued to come in a scrappy but competitive opening 45 minutes. Iceland’s Sandra Jessen forced a good save from Livia Peng, while at the other end, Sydney Schertenleib and Iman Beney both tested Iceland goalkeeper Cecilia Rán Rúnarsdottir from range.

A moment of Swiss jubilation came in the 29th minute when Svenja Folmli had the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for an earlier infringement.
The game opened up in the second half as Switzerland gradually took control. They came agonisingly close just before the hour mark, with Iman Beney and Leila Wandeler both denied by excellent saves from Runarsdottir.
Iceland nearly punished them on the counter, but Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir’s free kick smashed against the bar in one of their last real chances of the game.
Switzerland’s pressure finally paid off in the 76th minute. Sydney Schertenleib’s smart layoff found Geraldine Reuteler in space, and the Frankfurt forward coolly slotted home into the bottom left corner to give the hosts a well-earned lead.
With Iceland pushing forward in search of an equaliser, the Swiss struck again on the break in stoppage time. Leila Wandeler surged forward and teed up Alayah Pilgrim, who cut inside and curled a low effort from distance into the bottom corner to seal the win.
