Mumbai Indians (MI) will be up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the third game of IPL 2025. The CSK vs MI match is scheduled to take place on Sunday (March 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Things have not gone well for Mumbai Indians in recent seasons and last year was not an exception either. Before the start of the season, they decided to sack Rohit Sharma as their captain and replaced him with Hardik Pandya.

However, the move did not pay off as Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins. It was the third time in four seasons that MI failed to qualify for the playoffs. Things are likely to be more settled for MI this season under Pandya’s captaincy and they will be keen to do well.
With Mumbai Indians now gearing up for their first game of the season, we are taking a look at the Mumbai Indians Playing 11 for the upcoming game against CSK.
Mumbai Indians Playing 11 vs CSK- IPL 2025, Match 3:
Openers: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton (wk)
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton are set to be the openers in the Mumbai Indians Playing 11 this season. While Rohit opened the innings with Ishan Kishan last season, the latter has been signed up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2025.
In IPL 2024, Rohit scored 417 runs in 14 games including a century and a fifty. The onus will be on him to give MI a good start with the bat. Ryan Rickelton, on the other hand, will be making his debut in the IPL this season.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Naman Dhir, Corbin Bosch, Mitchell Santner
With Hardik Pandya suspended for the match against CSK, MI have named Suryakumar Yadav as their captain for the upcoming game. Yadav has been leading India in T20Is since last year and will be looking to lead MI from the front. Last year, he scored 347 runs in 11 games for MI.
Mumbai Indians will also be relying heavily on Tilak Varma. The youngster has delivered consistently for the franchise and will be looking to make an impact this year as well. In 38 IPL games so far, he has scored 1,156 runs, including six fifties. Varma can not only play the role of an anchor but can also play the big shots at will.
Naman Dhir, Corbin Bosch, and Mitchell Santner are expected to be the other options in the MI Playing 11 for the upcoming game. Dhir was one of the very few positives in an otherwise disappointing last season for MI. He had played seven games last season, scoring 140 runs at a strike rate of almost 180.
Bosch, on the other hand, will be playing in the IPL for the very first time. While he was originally not a part of the MI squad, he recently replaced his compatriot Lizaad Williams in the team. An allrounder, Bosch has scored more than 600 runs and taken 59 wickets in 86 T20s so far.
Santner will be the other allrounder in the MI Playing 11. A reliable spin bowler, the New Zealand star can also hit the big shots when needed.
Bowlers: Karn Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Mujeeb Ur Rahman
With conditions in Chennai expected to be spin-friendly, MI can name two frontline spinners in their lineup with Mitchell Santner being the other option. Karn Sharma and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are set to be the frontline spinners in the MI Playing 11 for their game against CSK.
Mujeeb was signed by MI as a replacement for his compatriot Allah Ghazanfar. He has the ability to bowl at any stage of the game including in the powerplay and MI will look to capitalize on it. Karn, on the other hand, has ample experience playing in the IPL and will be keen to make an impact for MI.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult are set to be the two pacers in the MI Playing 11. Having played for CSK in the past, Chahar is well aware of the conditions in Chennai and will look to make an instant impact. Boult will also be keen to hit the ground running on his return to the MI side.
