Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has identified a key member of the Indian cricket team as its ‘Mr. Fix-It,’ someone who has consistently stepped up in crucial moments without always grabbing the headlines. Speaking to Fanatic TV, Starc reflected on India’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign and how this player quietly but effectively played a vital role in the team’s triumph.
A silent contributor who delivered under pressure
During the conversation, the host pointed out that KL Rahul had played a crucial but understated role in the Champions Trophy, consistently scoring vital 30s and 40s to stabilize the innings. The player wasn’t necessarily the match-winner in every game, but his contributions ensured India got over the line when it mattered most.
“I feel like he was kind of the under spoken man of the tournament. He kept coming in with 30s and 40s at the end, getting India over the line. Even during the Australian summer, he was very solid – without winning games outright, he made sure the team was in a position to win,” the host said.
Mitchell Starc’s firsthand experience & excitement to be teammates
Responding to the discussion, Starc admitted that while he had played against Rahul several times, he had never shared the dressing room with him. He recalled an interaction they had while on a flight in India, where they briefly chatted.
“I’ve played a fair bit against him but not alongside him yet. I remember sitting next to him on a flight somewhere in India – I was heading to watch Alisa (Starc’s wife) play, and he was flying home. We had a bit of a chat. He’s pretty quiet, goes about his business, and stays focused on what he needs to get done,” Starc said.

A true ‘Mr. Fix-it’ for team India
What stood out the most to Starc was this player’s versatility and adaptability across all formats. Whether opening the innings, playing in the middle order, keeping wickets, or even being a dependable fielder, he has done it all for India. This ability to seamlessly fit into different roles within India’s strong lineup made him indispensable. Even in the Champions Trophy, he played multiple positions, ensuring stability in pressure situations.
“He’s almost like ‘Mr. Fix-It,’. He’s opened the batting when asked, played at No. 6, kept wickets, fielded, and even run the drinks. He doesn’t bowl, but apart from that, he’s done just about everything else,” Starc explained.
Delhi Capitals reunion in IPL 2025
For the first time in his career, Starc will be playing alongside Rahul in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both will be part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad, and Starc is eager to see what his teammate is like off the field. With Starc and Rahul now playing together for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, it will be interesting to see how the two stars complement each other in one of the most competitive T20 leagues in the world.
“I’ve seen how he plays as an opposition player, but I’m excited to be around him as a teammate and pick his brain. He has played an important role for India in all three formats, and it’ll be great to see what he’s like in the Delhi Capitals setup,” Starc concluded.
