The Ospreys captain had been in South Africa only 24 hours prior
It’s been a busy couple of days for Jac Morgan.
On Saturday, he watched on as the Ospreys slipped to a 29-28 defeat at the hands of the Lions in their final outing of the United Rugby Championship, having previously captained the side on his 50th appearance for the club against the Sharks in Durban.
Then, by the Sunday evening, he had jetted in to south-west London, linking up with the British and Irish Lions for the first time since being named in Andy Farrell’s 38-man squad.
The Lions had gathered at a hotel in Richmond on Sunday morning as part of a two-day team bonding stint, with scrum-half Tomos Williams the only Welsh representative until Morgan turned up later in the day. As well as using the time to get to know one another, the squad will also tick off a number of administrative tasks, including head shots and even getting fitted for suits.
Upon arrival Morgan was greeted by Lions captain Maro Itoje, who made a point of giving the 25-year-old a warm welcome.
In video posted on X, Morgan can be seen gathering his bags out of the car before heading towards the entrance of the hotel, where Itoje is there to greet him.
“Jac, what’s happening?” he says, before giving the Welshman a hug and offering his congratulations on being picked for the upcoming tour of Australia.
“So you played yesterday?” Itoje then enquires.
“We had a game yesterday, but we got back last night from Johannesburg,” Morgan responds.
“How did it go?” Itoje then asks.
“It was alright. It was the last game of the season,” Morgan then answers.
Itoje then adds: “It’s good to have you.”
Morgan then says how much he’s ‘looking forward to it’.
The Lions begin a packed summer schedule by taking on Argentina at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on June 20, before then heading to Australia for five warm-up games ahead of the opening Test with the Wallabies in Brisbane on July 19.
