Manchester City head to Liverpool as outsiders in Premier League game for first time since 2017

Manchester City will go into Sunday’s game at Liverpool as outsiders in a Premier League game for the first time in seven years.

The four-time defending champions are on a miserable run of form with Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham their third defeat on the trot in the top flight.

They have fared little better in cup competitions with an EFL Cup exit to Spurs and a failure to beat either Sporting CP or Feyenoord in the Champions League.

City led Feyenoord 3-0 last night with 16 minutes to go but could only manage a 3-3 draw with coach Pep Guardiola admitting his team looked “fragile” under pressure.

Their next game comes at Anfield at the weekend against a Liverpool side flying under Arne Slot.

The Merseysiders have an eight-point lead at the top of the table and would take a giant step towards the title with a victory.

Liverpool go into the game as 11/10 favourites with City at 9/4.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Manchester City are not favourites in their upcoming tie against Liverpool, and remarkably it’s the first time they have been outsiders in a Premier League fixture since the 2017 season.

“City’s recent run of form, which has seen their winless streak extend to six games, sees them only considered a 9/4 shot to get the better of Liverpool at Anfield with the home side the 11/10 favourites in the market.

“As a result of their four straight Premier League losses, City are now eight points behind league leaders Liverpool, and the Reds are 4/5 to win the title this season with City drifting to 7/2, also behind Arsenal in the market at 3/1.”
