Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign a versatile new midfielder in the summer, with Ruben Amorim looking to bolster his squad in the middle of the park, according to a new report.
Bruno Fernandes wins Man Utd Player of the Month
Bruno Fernandes was named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for the second month in a row earlier this week following an impressive few weeks that saw him score six goals and provide two assists across five appearances.
The Portuguese playmaker, who Fabrizio Romano has recently said will stay at Old Trafford this summer, started the month with a goal in United’s FA Cup defeat to Fulham, before then firing in a superb free-kick against Arsenal in the Premier League a week later.
He then scored just his second-ever United hat-trick as the Red Devils brushed aside Real Sociedad to reach the quarterfinals of the Europa League, and finished the month with a goal in a 3-0 win over struggling Leicester City.
Now with 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, Fernandes has been by far and away United’s best player this season in what has been an otherwise difficult campaign for Amorim’s side.

So good has the Portugal international been, in fact, that club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently listed Fernandes as the only player United must without doubt keep hold of in the summer transfer window, while labeling others as “overpaid”.
“The captain is a fabulous footballer,” Ratcliffe told BBC Sport’s Dan Roan. “We definitely need Bruno. Without him it would be really tough.”
Man Utd eyeing £40m+ Felix Nmecha – Sky Sports
Though currently playing alongside Manuel Ugarte in the heart of United’s midfield, Fernandes could soon have a new partner alongside him in the middle at Old Trafford.
According Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man Utd and INEOS are “closely monitoring” the situation of Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha.
Dortmund are expected to demand at least £42 million for the Germany international, whose contract runs until 2028, in the summer, but there are no concrete talks taking place just yet with either player or club.
Nmecha, 24, has played 27 times for Dortmund this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists from defensive midfield.
Back in November, former Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin, who was sacked by the club in January, heaped praise on Nmecha and his versatility, who has been capped three times by Germany.
“I think he has everything, he has an exceptional profile for a midfielder. He can play in the number six role, but can also play at number eight and ten.”
“Now he needs to take the next step. And then we’ll have a really good midfielder for the next few years. As a coach, you want players like that.”

What a signing he could be for the Red Devils.
Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl, meanwhile, previously described Nmecha “a fast, technically adept and physically strong player’, and a move back to Manchester after coming through at Man City could be one to watch.
