Lionel Messi’s appetite for records shows no sign of being sated with the Argentina superstar breaking another in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win at the New England Revolution last night.
The 38-year-old netted twice in the first half in Foxborough to become the first man to score at least two goals in four successive Major League Soccer games.
Messi is now second in the MLS goalscoring charts with 14 – two behind Nashville’s Sam Surridge.
Here, we take a look at the four games – which came either side of Miami’s participation in the Club World Cup – in which Messi wrote his name in the record books.
Inter Miami 4-2 Montreal – May 28 (Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale)
Needing a win to turn round a run of one win in eight outings, Messi delivered with two goals and an assist as Javier Mascherano’s side saw off the Canadians.
He opened the scoring after 27 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box and, after Luis Suarez added a double of his own, netted again with three minutes to go, delightfully converting Suarez’s precise pass.

Inter Miami 5-1 Columbus Crew – May 31 (Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale)
Just three days later, Messi delivered a virtuoso display to dismantle Columbus.
The former Barcelona man had a hand in each of Miami’s five goals – scoring twice and assisting the other three.
His goals came after 15 and 24 minutes – the first after capitalising on an error from Crew goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen and the second following a neat through-ball from Sergio Busquets.
The second was his 30th in Miami colours, breaking a tie with Gonzalo Higuain for the most in franchise history.
2 goals and 3 assists for Messi to secure another Player of The Matchday 🏆🔥

Montreal 1-4 Inter Miami
A 4-0 thrashing by Messi’s former club Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Club World Cup was swiftly forgotten with Montreal on the receiving end once more.
An early blunder from the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner which gave Prince Owusu the chance to put the home side ahead seemed to spur Messi on to making amends.
He set up Tadeo Allende’s equaliser and then scored a curling effort from the edge of the area to give Mascherano’s side the lead.
Messi saved the best to last, though, with a superb run and finish that capped another profitable evening.

New England Revolution 1-2 Inter Miami
There was no let-up from Messi with another brace as Miami secured their fourth league win on the trot.
Having capitalised on some poor New England defending for his first, Messi then doubled his side’s advantage with a brilliant finish after latching on to a pin-point Busquets pass.

Carles Gil pulled one back with 11 minutes to go but the home side could not find an equaliser.
Afterwards, Mascherano said: “Obviously Leo is a special player. For me he is the best player that has played this sport in history.
“So it’s unbelievable because how he continues doing things that many, many years ago we thought that maybe we wouldn’t see at this stage…
“He’s a special player. We are lucky to have him.”
