LeBron and Bronny James jerseys from the opening night of the NBA season have commanded a high price at auction, with a single buyer picking up both.
LeBron and Bronny James Opening Night Jerseys Sold at Auction
LeBron and Bronny James famously made NBA history on the opening night of the season, becoming the first father-son duo to be named in the same squad together.
LeBron, who turns 40 this month, had made no secret of his desire to maximise his longevity in order to line-up alongside son Bronny, who was drafted as the 55th overall pick by the Lakers.
The NBA’s all-time leading points scorer finally got his wish, which was made all the more heartfelt given Bronny’s pathway to the NBA looked uncertain after suffering a frightening cardiac arrest in practice last year.
Although Bronny didn’t feature on opening night, auctioneer Sotheby’s listed both father and son jerseys. They say the 20-year-old donned his jersey during Media Day and at several preseason appearances.
Meanwhile, LeBron’s jersey also saw action in two preseason games, Media Day and a 16-point performance to open the season as the Lakers’ clinched victory over Minnesota.
Both jerseys sold for $102,000 – which comparative to other sporting memorabilia that has sold recently is cheap, relatively speaking.

The jerseys mark an unprecedented chapter in NBA history, from perhaps the league’s greatest every player, so it is surprising to see them command a relatively low price tag.
Of course, Bronny is yet to forge a career of his own in the NBA, and with no guarantee he will make a mark, there is a value risk.
LeBron and Bronny are currently enduring a tough period at the Lakers, who slipped to their 11th defeat of the season against the Trailer Blazers last week.
Their recent struggles have fuelled trade rumours, with the trade season unofficially getting underway on December 15th where LeBron will become eligible to be traded.
