Abishek Porel shines for Delhi Capitals with match-winning knock
In Match 40 of the IPL 2025, Porel played a defining innings, crafting a fluent 51 off 36 balls to steer DC to a commanding 8-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow. Chasing a modest target of 160, Porel anchored the chase with composure and flair, showing maturity well beyond his years. His innings included some crisp strokeplay, and he ensured the scoreboard kept ticking without taking undue risks. Porel’s ability to rotate strike, coupled with timely boundaries, helped break the back of the chase early on.
What made Porel’s knock even more valuable was his vital 69-run partnership with KL Rahul, who also played a stabilizing role. The duo ensured there were no hiccups in the chase after the early loss of one wicket. The partnership came at a crucial phase of the innings, neutralizing LSG’s hopes of mounting pressure through the middle overs. Rahul, returning to form, played the perfect foil to Porel, allowing the youngster to express himself freely while anchoring the innings from the other end.

“Obviously, I am enjoying every innings, trying to develop in every innings. The future plan is to play for India, play for the country for a long period,” Porel said at the post-match press conference. But current focus is the IPL trophy, how can I help the team in winning the trophy, how can I contribute for DC. This matters a lot right now,” Porel said during the post-match press conference.
While Porel dreams big, his immediate focus remains grounded to deliver match-winning performances for the Capitals and help them lift the IPL trophy this season. With a modest yet impactful tally of 225 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 146.10, he’s already become a key contributor to DC’s batting lineup.
