Springbok scrumhalf Louis Schreuder hopes to make a big contribution to the Boland Cavaliers’ 2025 Currie Cup campaign.
The 35-year-old returns to South Africa after overseas stints with Toulon, Newcastle and Bath.
Schreuder brings with him a wealth of experience from a career that includes domestic spells with Western Province, the Stormers, Kings and Sharks. He now joins an ambitious Boland outfit that secured promotion to the Currie Cup Premier Division by finishing in the top four on the SA Cup log.
“Connection [to a team] is something that is very important to me,” Schreuder told Boland’s website. “I grew up here in Wellington, probably 500 metres from Boland Stadium. As a toddler, I used to watch Boland games with my dad, who played and coached at the union. That’s where I truly started falling in love with the game.”
While Schreuder played youth and senior rugby for Western Province, he says he has always been a Bolander at heart.
“My family and I have adapted very well in Wellington since returning from England. I know lots of people here and most of my family still lives in the area, so the transition back has been seamless. It’s great to be close to Boland Park again.”

The veteran scrumhalf, who won the Currie Cup with WP in 2012 and the Sharks in 2018, hopes to help Boland build on their SA Cup campaign.
“It looks like a hungry group of players, and coach Hawies [Fourie] has created a good culture. I still have that hunger to compete and win games. Everything is well set up for me and my family.
“I’m excited to get going, contribute as much as I can, and share my knowledge on and off the field. It’s a full-circle moment for me – my first love was always Boland, and it’s a very good feeling to be back home.”
The Cavaliers will kick off their Currie Cup campaign against the Cheetahs in Wellington on 27 July.
