The 36-year-old Australia National Cricket Team all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who is representing the Punjab Kings (PBKS), has given a bizarre justification for his horror show in IPL 2025.
Glenn Maxwell said that the luck factor is not working for him in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and he has been quite unlucky at times.

Maxwell is struggling in IPL 2025
Glenn Maxwell has featured in all six matches of the Indian Premier League 2025 for the Punjab Kings after being bought by the franchise for INR 4.20 crore at the mega auction.
He has played against the Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kolkata Knight Riders but is yet to fire with the bat.
Maxwell has registered scores of 0, 30, 1, 3, and 7 in the five innings that he has batted, and despite these awful returns with the bat, he has retained his place in the playing XI.
The main reason behind Maxwell receiving good backing from PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Shreyas Iyer has been his spin-bowling, with which he has taken 4 wickets so far.
I feel I’ve been a bit unlucky during this tournament – Glenn Maxwell
Speaking in a video shared on IPL’s website ahead of the match, Glenn Maxwell said that his bowling and fielding have been really good, and it’s just about getting better as a batter. He also labeled himself as unlucky and elaborated:
“A lucky thing about being an allrounder in the side at least a couple of strings to my bowling going really well. I feel like I’ve fielding and bowling really well at the moment and been able to keep my place in the side by doing those things right and really well. I’m sure the batting will join the party at some stage.
“It’s just a little bit of luck going your way. I feel I’ve been a bit unlucky during this tournament. I probably should have reviewed the first ball of the tournament and then I guess things might have been different but I think just keeping a really good attitude and making sure I’m still upbeat and positive about it. You’re constantly tinkering things in training. I’ve got some of the best sets of eyes watching me train and help me along the way so fingers crossed to turn around.”
It certainly instills a lot of belief in the group – Glenn Maxwell
The all-rounder further talked about winning a low-scoring thriller against the Kolkata Knight Riders and said that it instilled a lot of belief in the group. He said:
“[On winning a low scoring thriller] It certainly instills a lot of belief in the group. We knew we weren’t at our best with the bat but we realised that there was something there in the wicket that we could exploit. Defending a low total, you need a lot of things to go your way. A really good sign of things to come. Hopefully if we can keep those standards in the field and keep that energy going, hopefully it holds some good steak going forward.
Glenn Maxwell, who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last few seasons of IPL, said that the match between RCB and PBKS might not be high-scoring. He said:
“[Expectations in Bengaluru] Hopefully the rain goes away. With the rain over the last couple of days here, I feel the outfield is going to be a little bit soft and slow. It might not be as high scoring as we have known in the last few years but it’ll be a really good contest. Small boundaries are always in the way for batters and you have to be on it with your skills as a bowler.”
