England will be desperate to bounce back when they take on India in the first ODI of the three-match series. The series opener is scheduled to be played on Thursday (February 6) at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
The visitors had a dismal outing in the T20I series as India thrashed them 4-1. The Men in Blue pretty much outplayed England in the T20Is, especially in the fifth T20I in Mumbai. India thrashed England by 150 runs to condemn them to their heaviest T20I defeat.
After the thrashing in the T20Is, England will start the ODI series as underdogs. It could be a blessing in disguise for them as they will be able to play the game without too much pressure. And as England look to turn things around, we are taking a look at the England Playing 11 for the 1st IND vs ENG ODI.
England Playing 11 vs India – 1st ODI, England tour of India 2025:
Openers: Phil Salt, Ben Duckett
Phil Salt and Ben Duckett are expected to be the openers in the England Playing 11 for the first ODI. Salt struggled with the bat at the start of the T20I series before getting some much-needed runs in the last two T20Is. He started the series with knocks of 0, 4, and 55 before scoring 23 runs in the fourth T20I.
In the fifth T20I, Salt scored 55 runs and would be looking to start the ODI series with a good knock as well. Just like Salt, Duckett also played a couple of decent knocks in the T20I series. After scoring 4 and 3 in the first two games, he played knocks of 51 and 39. In the fifth ODI, Duckett was out for a duck and will look to bounce back.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse
Joe Root is set to be in the England Playing 11 for the first IND vs ENG ODI. The former England Test captain last played an ODI during the 2023 World Cup and will be keen to hit the ground running. England’s batsmen had struggled against spin in the T20I series and the onus will be on Root to counter India’s spin threat in the ODI series.
Harry Brook failed to live up to the expectations in the T20I series and will be looking to turn things around in the ODIs. The right-handed batsman looked almost clueless against the spinners in the T20Is. Barring the 51-run knock in the fourth T20I, Brook could not even reach the 20-run mark in any of the other four games.
Jos Buttler will have the responsibility to guide England to a good finish with the bat in the ODI series. The England captain will be desperate to lead the side from the front after the defeat in the T20Is and definitely can play match-winning knocks.
Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, and Brydon Carse are expected to be the three allrounders in the England Playing 11. All three players managed to make an impact in the T20I series and will be keen to deliver with both bat and ball in the ODI.
Bowlers: Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
The visitors are expected to play the first ODI with two frontline pacers and one spinner. Adil Rashid is expected to be the frontline spinner in the England Playing 11 while Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are likely to be the two pacers.
