Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh found himself in the spotlight for reasons beyond the cricket field ahead of the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.
Arshdeep Singh silences troll with candid comeback ahead of Edgbaston Test
Arshdeep, who has earned his maiden Test call-up for the five-match series, was recently targeted by a social media troll. A fan on Snapchat criticized Arshdeep for his outings during the series, accusing him of prioritizing leisure over cricket and suggesting that “roaming around” would not help India win matches. The fan’s message read, “Ghumne se kuch ni hoga pajji, match jitwao,” Arshdeep’s reply, however, was sharp and unbothered. Without escalating the situation, the 26-year-old simply responded with a terse “Okay beta (son) g” – a reply that quickly gained attention on social media, earning praise for his confidence and calm demeanor. The exchange highlighted Arshdeep’s unshaken focus as he prepares for potential inclusion in the upcoming Test match at Edgbaston after India being demolished by the hosts in a brute manner on the last day of the first Test.

Arshdeep’s potential inclusion in the playing XI for the second Test against England
While Arshdeep hasn’t yet made his debut in red-ball cricket for India, there are growing calls for his inclusion in the playing XI after India’s lackluster bowling display in the first Test at Headingley, where the visitors lost by five wickets despite setting England a fourth-innings target of 371. With the second Test set to be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham from July 2 to 6, the pressure is mounting on Team India to bounce back in the series.
England’s chase of 371 was the tenth-highest successful fourth-innings total in Test history, and it exposed serious flaws in India’s bowling plans and execution. Arshdeep’s name is now strongly being discussed among fans as a solution to India’s lack of left-arm variation and the need for greater control.
The Indian think-tank has several decisions to make, including the possible rotation of pacers, managing Bumrah’s workload, and choosing the right combination based on pitch and overhead conditions. Arshdeep, who has performed impressively in white-ball formats for India and also gained red-ball experience during his stint with Kent in the England County circuit, stands as a solid contender to break into the playing XI. If selected, this could mark a significant chapter in Arshdeep’s international career and possibly provide India the balance it lacked in Leeds.
