Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his witty remarks, delivered a memorable ‘mic drop,’ moment after former England captain Michael Vaughan‘s prediction about India‘s five-match series against England fell flat on Day 1 of the first Test at Headingley.
India’s dominant start under the leadership of Shubman Gill
Under the fresh leadership of Shubman Gill, India came out all guns blazing, wreaking havoc on an inexperienced England bowling attack. India finished the first day at a commanding 359/3. Captain Gill was still at the crease with a magnificent 127 runs, while newly appointed vice-captain Rishabh Pant scored a scintillating unbeaten 65. The young opening sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his dream run in SENA countries, smashing a remarkable century and toying with the English bowlers.
Only England captain Ben Stokes managed to pick up a couple of wickets. This strong start was crucial for the young Indian side, especially after losing two cricketing batting gems in the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli before the series. Due to the seemingly weak and inexperienced batting lineup, with most players visiting England for the first time, many, including Vaughan, had anticipated an easy victory for England.

Navjot Sidhu roasts Michael Vaughan after his ENG vs IND Test series prediction goes wrong on Day 1
Before the start of series, Vaughan had confidently stated, ‘They (India) arrive again to lose,’ on English shores and predicted 3-1 in favour of England with, banking on India’s inexperienced batting lineup following the absence of Rohit and Kohli.
Following the day’s play, Sidhu brutally roasted Vaughan regarding his series of failed predictions in a video uploaded by Star Sports. Sidhu began by hilariously laughing at Vaughan’s earlier predictions, quipping, “Fools grow without watering. Michael Vaughan, your predictions. They’re always wrong,” He then brought up the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2020-21, where Vaughan predicted a 4-0 whitewash for India against Australia, but India, with an inexperienced side, eventually won 2-1.
Sidhu also highlighted Vaughan’s recent prediction that South Africa would not win against Australia in the recently concluded World Test Championship final, which South Africa ultimately did. Sidhu further taunted, “Goodness, I hope you’re not predicting an India win now,” He concluded his scathing assessment of England’s bowling attack, stating, “Look at your bowling attack. They’re pedestrians. I mean, three of the Indian batsmen are stepping out and hitting them like spinners. Boss, noise proves nothing. Even a hen while laying an egg cackles as if she’s laying an asteroid. Stop making the noise. Do something. There is no suffering that pity will not insult. Man, you’re in a pity situation. Cut it,”
