Grant Williams is one of two Springbok world champion No 9s who are reportedly set for spells on the sidelines due to injuries.
Rapport reports that veteran Faf de Klerk has fractured his thumb playing for his Japanese club Canon Eagles and could miss up to two months of action.
The 33-year-old is among the 26 players invited to the Boks’ overseas alignment camp on 27 March, when Rassie Erasmus is expected to assess his condition.

De Klerk missed South Africa’s 2024 Rugby Championship campaign and end-of-year tour due to a thigh injury.
Williams, meanwhile, is understood to have been playing through a back injury for weeks. Rapport reveals that the Sharks star suffered a C7 lateral mass hairline fracture in the Investec Champions Cup win against the Exeter Chiefs in December.
The 28-year-old will need at least five weeks to recover but is set to make a full return with no long-term complications. He can still train but must avoid contact until the pain subsides.
Head coach John Plumtree, when announcing the Sharks lineup for Saturday’s win against Zebre, explained Williams’ absence due to “an issue with his neck”.
