A moment of brilliance was produced by the Delhi Capitals (DC) during the 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday, April 29.
DC pulled off a stunning team hat-trick against KKR in the same over where Andre Russell smoked Mitchell Starc for a colossal 106-m six at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders produce an intense 20th over
Mitchell Starc was brought in to bowl the 20th over of the first innings when Kolkata Knight Riders were at 195/6 with explosive batters Andre Russell and Rovman Powell in the middle.
On the first ball of the over, Andre Russell smoked Mitchell Starc for a huge 106-m six straight down the ground after the pacer bowled a juicy full toss.
After that, DC used two reviews for wide calls on back-to-back deliveries, and one decision went in their favor. Then, on the third ball of the over, Starc trapped Rovman Powell LBW as the batter was beaten for pace, and the ball struck him on the back pad. Powell took the review but started walking after the initial replays.
On the 4th ball, Dushmantha Chameera grabbed a stunning flying catch to dismiss Anukul Roy, and on the fifth ball, Andre Russell got run out as Delhi Capitals produced a team hat-trick.
Notably, Russell got run out at the striker’s end, but Starc gestured to Faf du Plessis that he heard a noise, and Delhi Capitals took a review for a caught behind against Harshit Rana. The third umpire was called in once again, but DC weren’t successful in the review. Meanwhile, on the last ball of the over, Varun Chakravarthy took a single as Kolkata Knight Riders finished with 204/9 on the board.

This IPL hasn’t been one like I have had before – Delhi Capitals’ Faf du Plessis
Speaking in a video shared on the IPL website, Faf du Plessis said that the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League has not been good for him as he has faced some niggles and hasn’t batted well. He stated:
“Yes, thank you! The body is obeying me! This IPL hasn’t been one like I have had before. I had to dig deep this season. I have had a couple of niggles. Happy to be back in the park. Today is a really big game for us. It is an important one for us. One thing we have done well this season is that we haven’t lost back-to-back matches. Looking forward to getting that ‘W’ today.”
Faf du Plessis further justified Delhi Capitals’ use of a lot of opening pairs in the Indian Premier League 2025 and said:
“Yes, of course! In a perfect world, you want to have an established top order. For various reasons, we had to have many openers. Obviously, the injury to me wasn’t something we had planned for. Hopefully, now, we can find some consistency in our roles in the next three or four games leading up to those knockouts. Everyone has performed at different stages, which is a blessing in disguise. We are not relying on any individual in the batting department at this stage. Hopefully, we are looking for a perfect batting matchup today.”
