Cricket South Africa has announced a 14-member T20I squad for their upcoming tri-nation series against New Zealand and Zimbabwe, starting July 14. This series is an important step in South Africa’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. With several fresh faces in the squad, the Proteas are clearly focused on building depth and testing new combinations under the leadership of Rassie van der Dussen, who takes charge of the side in this new phase.
Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee return as South Africa boost bowling firepower
Following their historic triumph in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025, South Africa will now move forward under newly appointed all-format coach Shukri Conrad, who will lead the side until 2027. Conrad, who has been with the Test team since 2023, played a key role in guiding the Proteas to their WTC glory.
The return of key pace duo Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee provides a major boost to the team. Both pacers are a part of Major Cricket league (MLC) 2025, after recovering from injury setbacks and are expected to play a vital role in the Protea bowling unit. Their experience and ability to bowl in crucial phases will add balance to the squad.

CSK’s new sensation Dewald Brevis included in the squad
Young sensation Dewald Brevis has returned to the South African squad. The 22-year-old, known for his explosive batting and electric fielding, was one of the standout performers of IPL 2025. After going unsold in the auction, Brevis was later signed by CSK as an injury replacement — a move that turned out to be one of the few things that went right for the franchise last season. In just six matches, he scored 225 runs at a scintillating strike rate of 180, including two half-centuries.
Fondly nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ by fans, Brevis boasts impressive T20 numbers. In 88 innings, he has scored over 2,100 runs at a strike rate of over 150, with 10 half-centuries and a century to his name. This upcoming tri-series will be a crucial opportunity for the young star to make his mark on the international stage.
