Chelsea are planning to submit a £50m offer for a “spectacular” midfielder, who is now considered one of their key targets, according to a report.
Blues planning signings in multiple positions
Should the Blues manage to clinch Champions League qualification, Enzo Maresca’s first season at Stamford Bridge will probably go down as a success, and there is still an opportunity to win silverware in the Conference League.
Blueco will have loftier future ambitions for the club, but in order to close the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, there may have to be some new signings in the summer, and targets have been identified in a range of positions.
Maresca is believed to be driving a move for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, who may be brought in to replace the much-maligned Robert Sanchez, while there is also a strong desire to bring in a striker.

The west Londoners are now interested.
The west Londoners hold a concrete interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, while they are also reportedly set to make a £37m bid for Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who has been prolific in front of goal this season.
Not only could a new goalkeeper and striker be brought in this summer, but Chelsea are also keen on a new midfielder, with a report from Spain revealing they are expected to make a €60m (£50m) bid for Barcelona’s Gavi.
Gavi’s future at Camp Nou is uncertain, given a lack of playing time under manager Hansi Flick, which could open the door for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The 20-year-old is considered a key target, given his age, with Blueco looking to bring in talented young players, but there will be competition for his signature, as Paris Saint-Germain also hold a strong interest.
“Spectacular” Gavi could be a fantastic signing
Despite his age, the Spaniard already has a lot of experience at the top level, having made 135 appearances for Barcelona, and he has performed very well on some key defensive metrics over the past year compared to his positional peers.

The starlet is composed in possession of the ball, ranking in the 95th percentile for his pass completion rate, and he has previously been lauded as “spectacular” by former Barca boss Xavi, while also receiving high praise from football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
The only aspect of the central midfielder’s game which could arguably be improved is his attacking output, having never scored more than two league goals in a season for Barcelona.
However, Gavi is still very young and has plenty of time to develop his game further, so it is promising news that Chelsea are set to make a bid.
