The Springboks could face another European team as part of their expanded 2025 Test schedule.
Earlier this month, coach Rassie Erasmus revealed that SA Rugby was looking to organise two more Tests for the Boks this year (for a total of 15 Tests).
One of those opponents could be Portugal, who Rapport claims will be hosted by the Cheetahs, who successfully staged last year’s Test between the Boks and Os Lobos. This suggests the Boks could meet Portugal again this year.
The Cheetahs are already locked in to play Georgia at the Free State Stadium on 12 July, a week before the Springboks face the Lelos in Nelspruit.
Japan have also been mentioned as possible additional opponents for the Boks in 2025. The teams last met in the 2019 World Cup quarter-final in Tokyo.
