Celebrate the former Springbok flyhalf’s 41st birthday with a look back on his remarkable career.
There was not a moment in 2021 more magical than watching Steyn go full circle in his Springbok career, kicking them to victory over the British & Irish Lions in the third Test in Cape Town.
The then 37-year-old – recalled for the series decider having not played for South Africa since 2016 – slotted the series-winning penalty, as he had done against the Lions in Pretoria 12 years earlier.
Steyn will also be remembered for his performance against the All Blacks in Durban in 2009 when he scored all of the Springboks’ points (a try, conversion and eight penalty goals) in a 31-19 win.
He ended his Test career with 742 points from 68 matches.
Steyn also starred for the Bulls, winning three Super Rugby and two Currie Cup titles. He remains the second-highest point-scorer in Super Rugby history, with 1,551.
