Key Points Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix
McLaren Team Orders
Or lack of, the team at McLaren are still sticking to their guns, insisting there are no team orders and their two drivers are free to race each other. However, this came to blows for the first time in Montreal last time out, with Lando Norris going for a gap that was not there to try and overtake teammate Oscar Piastri.
Norris took full responsibility for the incident, but is it the final time the two drivers, who are fighting for the championship, collide this season? Team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown will be hopeful it is the first and only time.
Verstappen Race Ban
Still, one of the main talking points ahead of the weekend is the race ban still looming over the head of Max Verstappen. Austria is the final race weekend before some of his points expire from his license, and the gain of one extra point would see the Dutchman miss out on the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The first two of his penalty points will expire on June 30th, and the next two will expire on October 27th.
Legends Parade
The Austrian Grand Prix will also see a Legends Parade taking place on track ahead of the race. This sees the automotive stars of the screen take to the track, where fans can expect to see one of the original APXGP cars, as driven by Brad Pitt in F1 The Movie, alongside iconic racing cars, including Niki Lauda’s 1975 Ferrari 312T, which is bound to bring some emotion and memories.
There will also be the 1976 Ferrari 312T2 from the film Rush, the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger, the 1968 Ford Mustang from the movie Bullitt, and several memorable cars from the Fast & Furious series.
