Aston Villa are now exploring a deal for a £70m “superstar”, who amassed more goals and assists than Marcus Rashford across the 2024-25 campaign, according to a report.
Rashford’s future remains up in the air
After leaving boyhood club Manchester United during the January transfer window, Rashford managed to kick on somewhat on loan at Villa Park in the second half of the season, picking up five-goal contributions for Unai Emery’s side in the Premier League.
In total, the England international recorded a combined 20 goals and assists for United and Villa, putting himself in the shop window for a potential permanent move this summer, with a meeting recently being held over a move to Barcelona.
As such, Emery may need to bring in a replacement for the 27-year-old, and there has now been a suggestion he could once again look to raid Man Utd, who have to raise funds this summer after missing out on the Champions League.

The Villans have now submitted a proposal for a highly sought-after player, and they are determined to get a deal done.
That is according to a report from Caught Offside, which states Aston Villa are now exploring a deal for Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho, with Ruben Amorim directly informing the 20-year-old he is now free to leave this summer.
There is no shortage of interest in the Argentine’s services, however, with Serie A giants Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma also keen, alongside Bayer Leverkusen, with the German club eyeing a loan deal, although United would prefer a permanent sale.
A deal may be on the expensive side, however, with reports from elsewhere revealing the Red Devils could look to hold out for a fee of up to £70m, amid the widespread interest in the Argentine’s signature.
“Superstar” Garnacho could be statement signing for Villa
The idea of a ‘big six’ in the Premier League has faded into dust over the past years, with Man Utd finishing 15th last season, and Villa signing Garnacho this summer would send out a real statement.
Although Amorim’s side struggled considerably last season, the left-winger managed to consistently provide goals and assists for his side, chipping in with a combined 21 in all competitions, one more than former teammate Rashford.
Not only has the youngster been lauded by journalist Liam Canning, but he has also received praise from former Argentina striker Javier Saviola, who said: “He has a lot of personality, he doesn’t give up and he’s always on the ball. He never gives up in one-on-one situations,”
“Now he’s adding goals to his game, something he was lacking a bit before, and he’s appearing closer to the box.”
That said, while Garnacho is showing signs of improvement, his attacking numbers may not yet justify a £70m outlay, so Villa could try to get a deal done at a lower price.
