In a much-anticipated turn of events, the India Champions vs Pakistan Champions clash in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been called off due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations. The cancellation has triggered massive fan reactions on social media, with many widely appreciating the Indian team’s stance.
India vs Pakistan match called off amid backlash
In a recent statement released by the WCL organizers seeking an apology the organizers stated that with recent sporting fixtures between India and Pakistan taking place, including hockey and volleyball, they hoped to continue the trend with the WCL match to spread joy globally. However, acknowledging the emotional impact it caused, they have decided to cancel the match and sincerely apologized for any hurt sentiments, hoping for public understanding.
“After seeing the recent India vs Pakistan volleyball match along with a few other fixtures between the two nations in different sports, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL, just to create some happy memories for people around the globe. But maybe in the process, we ended up hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions. Hence, we have decided to call off the India-Pakistan match. We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans,” the WCL statment said.
Several Indian players had pulled out from the match
Earlier former Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan pulled out of the Pakistan clash. In a social media post Dhawan said “Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi vaisa hi khada hun, mera desh mere liye sb kuch hai aur desh se badh kar kuch nahi hota (The decision I took on May 11, I stand by it even today. My country means everything to me, and nothing is greater than the nation).
Furthermore, reports came out that several other players including Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh have also pulled out from the WCL Clash on Sunday.

What happy memories? We were trading bombs 2 months back.
And sports ministry need to answer as well how the he’ll other sports happened even if there is less fan following of those sports.

WCL should be asked why it scheduled the match with Pakistan when Shikhar Dhawan had already informed the organizers in writing on May 11 that he would not play against Pakistan. Did any other Indian players email or informed them after Dhawan? It seems the match was cancelled…

I’ve never been a fan of boycott culture. Such actions seem childish when viewed in a broader context—especially when the bureaucracy is more focused on fooling the people instead. #INDvPAK #WCL2025 pic.twitter.com/csiJObQnU2

I don’t understand why Shikhar Dhawan even agreed to play with terrorists like Shahid Afridi.
Yuvraj Singh & Harbhajan Singh agreeing to play with Pakistan doesn’t shock me tbh….but Shikhar Dhawan was a surprise.
Nonetheless, WCL match with Pakistan has been called off….it… pic.twitter.com/RCb178B1hF

India vs Pakistan called off, going by the release sent by WCL it seems continuing the league without Pakistan team is the best & most feasible option for them. From IND organisers to players, they thought they will go ahead with this & no one will notice but that wasn’t the case pic.twitter.com/UnhKFaN3U4

Where greed for money is much more prominent than the love for “creating happy memories”.
