Women’s Euro 2025 hosts Switzerland needed a 92nd-minute equaliser to ensure progression to the knockout stages following a dramatic last 15-minutes against Finland in Group A.
A point was all that was required for the Swiss to make it through as group runners-up, while all three were needed for Finland to qualify for the quarter-finals.
After a rather uneventful first 75-minutes, the game sprang into life with a quarter of an hour remaining when a rash challenge in the box from Viola Calligaris gave Finland the chance to take the lead from the spot.
Natalia Kuikka stepped up to stroke home the penalty and give her team one foot in the next round.
However, deep into stoppage time, a cross from the right was tapped home by substitute Riola Xhemaili, sparking jubilant scenes from the home fans inside the Stade de Geneve.

In the other game, Norway, whose passage to the last eight had been confirmed prior to kick-off against an already-eliminated Iceland, fell behind to a seventh-minute Sveindis Jonsdottir goal but responded strongly by going 4-1 up.
Signe Gaupset and Frida Maanum both helped themselves to braces before Iceland launched a valiant comeback effort of their own late on.
First, Hlin Eiriksdottir pulled a goal back in the 84th minute before Glodis Viggosdottir reduced the deficit to one with a penalty deep into stoppage time.
Seven goals and a thrilling end but it was Norway who progressed as group winners with maximum points, while Iceland depart with little to show for their efforts.
Norway’s last eight opponents are likely to be either Italy or Portugal, while the Swiss look set to take on world champions Spain, who have looked impressive in their opening two matches of the tournament.
