In a high-intensity thriller at the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, it was not the bowler but the batter Trent Boult that powered MI New York (NY) to the Qualifier 2. Facing San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) in a must-win clash, Boult delivered a stunning finish under pressure, sealing the game in the final overs with a fearless batting display.
Trent Boult’s batting heroics seal a dramatic win
Boult delivered a thrilling finish with the bat. With MI reeling at 108 for 8 and needing 24 runs off the final 18 balls, Boult stepped up in style. He hammered two game-changing sixes in the 19th over off Hassan Khan — the first a bottom-handed loft over wide long-on, and the second a powerful hit over long-on that brought MI within one hit of victory. Boult remained unbeaten on 22 off just 13 balls, sealing a dramatic chase and sending MI New York to Qualifier 2.
Earlier in the match, Boult made an impact with the ball as well. He dismissed Tim Seifert with a sharp delivery that seamed away off the pitch. Seifert edged it to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, who took a brilliant low catch. The wicket put San Francisco under early pressure, setting the tone for a gripping contest.

MI New York edge past San Francisco in low-scoring thriller to reach Qualifier 2
It was a low-scoring match in Dallas where former champions New York chose to bowl first against San Francisco. The decision paid off early as SFU’s batting collapsed, slipping to 62 for 7 in under 12 overs. Only a late fightback from Xavier Bartlett and Brody Couch helped them reach 131 all out. It was a disappointing performance from a side that had looked solid throughout the tournament.
In response, MI got off to a steady start. Openers Monank Patel and de Kock added 43 runs in 38 balls, putting them in a strong position. But a sudden collapse saw them lose wickets at regular intervals, and they slipped to 108 for 8, handing the momentum back to New York. Just when the game seemed to be slipping away, Boult stepped up and showed his all-round value by finishing the chase under pressure and taking MI over the line in dramatic fashion. With this win, MI move into Qualifier 2, where they will face Texas Super Kings (TEX) on Saturday for a place in the MLC 2025 final.
