Jamal Musiala has absolved Gianluigi Donnarumma from any blame for the injury that will keep him out for several months.
Musiala suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday after Donnarumma challenged for a loose ball at the Germany international’s feet.
Bayern were livid with experienced goalkeeper Manuel Neuer claiming his opposite number had been reckless while boss Vincent Kompany said his “blood was boiling”.
Donnarumma has been in touch with Musiala to offer his support and the 22-year-old was happy to accept there was no malice in the challenge.
Musiala posted a video on Instagram in which he said: “I wanted to say thank you for all the lovely support I got from all of you. It really means a lot to me. It’s nice to see how the football world comes together in a time like this, and I really appreciate it.
“The surgery went really well. I’m in good care. And I wanted to say that there’s no-one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen. And now I’m just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys again.”
Donnarumma distraught by Musiala injury- agent
Donnarumma’s agent Vincenzo Raiola said yesterday that his client was distraught by what had happened.
Raiola told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Gigio is a very sensitive guy.
“Once in the locker room he even turned on his phone. In the many years that we have worked together he has never done that. He usually turns it off an hour before kick-off to focus on the game and turns it back on after the game. This time he sent me a message to tell me that he was shaken and that he hadn’t done it on purpose.
“It’s a matter of tenths of a second. Gigio arrived first and could no longer avoid the contact. It is unfair to think that he wanted to hurt Musiala, who we hope will return as soon as possible and come back stronger than before.”
