It has been Tulane, and not conference heavyweight East Carolina, that has claimed the American Athletic’s automatic bid each of the last two years. Head coach Jay Uhlman has overseen the program during that time, initially arriving in New Orleans starting with the 2020 season as an assistant before being promoted to interim head coach when Tulane and Travis Jewett mutually agreed to part ways in May of 2022.
