In a remarkable comeback, the West Indies Women clinched the T20I series against South Africa Women after losing the first match of the three-game series. Skipper Hayley Matthews once again came to the rescue with a brilliant all-round performance.
Miane Smit rescue South Africa after middle-overs collapse
After winning the toss, the visitors elected to bat first on a good-looking surface. The Proteas got off to a fine start, maintaining a run rate of over six and finding boundaries at regular intervals. However, some exceptional bowling by the hosts in the middle overs reduced South Africa to 92 for 5 in 15 overs. But a crucial late partnership between Miane Smit and Chloe Tryon of 44 runs in just 26 deliveries, helped the Proteas cross the 140-run mark.
For West Indies, it was a brilliant bowling performance, with every player stepping up to the occasion. Karishma Ramharack was the standout performer, delivering a tight spell that conceded just 18 runs while picking up two crucial wickets. She was well supported by Afy Fletcher, who also chipped in with two important wickets.

In reply, the hosts were once again marked by a dismal start at the top, with Qiana Joseph and Realeanna Grimmond falling cheaply. However, Hayley led the charge with a brilliant 65-run knock off just 50 deliveries, laying the foundation for the chase. In the end, Shemaine Campbelle and Chinelle Henry held their nerve, stitching a crucial 22-run partnership that took the side home.
In the bowling department, the Proteas tried multiple options, but it didn’t work in their favour. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp was the standout performer, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs. Apart from her, Sune Luus picked up the crucial wicket of Hayley, while Ayabonga Khaka dismissed Grimmond. The South African team now has plenty to reflect on after a disappointing T20I series performance, despite winning the ODI series and the opening game of the T20I leg.
