The Springboks went unbeaten in November but Cheslin Kolbe finished second in the race for the Autumn Nations Series MVP award.
Four players were nominated for the Player of the Series award – Bok dynamo Kolbe lined up against All Blacks flanker and World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year Wallace Sititi, France playmaker Thomas Ramos and Ireland openside flanker Josh van der Flier.
Van der Flier edged Kolbe, with 37% of the vote compared to the two-time World Cup winner’s 34%. A poll run on SARugbyMag.co.za had Kolbe as the overwhelming favourite to win the award with more than 94% of voters selecting the South African flyer.
Sititi was the second pick with just under 4% of the vote, while Ramos and Van der Flier combined for the remaining 2%.
