The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant lost his cool after the mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi pushed him to waste a DRS on the Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman KL Rahul.
The incident involving Rishabh Pant, Digvesh Rathi, and KL Rahul took place in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which is currently underway at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Rishabh Pant fumes at Digvesh Rathi
The incident happened in the 7th over of the innings when Digvesh Rathi was bowling and Abishek Porel was batting alongside KL Rahul in the middle.
On the sixth ball of the over, Digvesh Rathi bowled a full delivery to KL Rahul that beat the inside edge, and the ball spun enough to hit him on the front pad.
At first glance, the impact looked outside off, and even with all the turn on the delivery, it looked like Rahul would survive, and the umpire didn’t raise his finger either.
However, after a long chat with the spinner Rishabh Pant, who looked quite frustrated during the match, made the decision to use a DRS for LBW with 3 seconds remaining.
KL Rahul didn’t seem too worried after Pant’s decision, and in the UltraEdge, there was a flat line as there was no bat involved, and the impact was well outside off.
As the non-out decision was displayed on the big screen, Rishabh Pant exploded in anger, and he was about to slap Digvesh Rathi, but pulled out at the last moment.

Rishabh Pant flops with the bat
Pant failed miserably with the bat against the Delhi Capitals. He didn’t come out to bat at No.4, No.5, or No.6 spots as Abdul Samad, David Miller, and impact player Ayush Badoni were sent to bat above him.
He eventually walked out in the middle on the fourth ball of the 20th over at No. 7 spot and bagged a two-ball duck.
Speaking about Pant and Lucknow Super Giants on ESPNcricinfo ahead of the match, the veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara said that LSG don’t have a complete bowling line-up and their skipper is under a lot of pressure. He said:
“Yeah, definitely. If you look at their bowling line-up, it doesn’t feel like it’s a complete bowling line-up. Even if you look at the LSG team as a side, when you are playing against them as an opposition, you don’t feel that threat. And I doubt whether they will make it to the playoffs. Yes, they have performed well. But overall, I feel that it doesn’t look like a complete team. Because one is, some of their bowlers are injured.
“Now they are getting fit. We don’t know yet whether Mayank is fit to play his first game. So, there are a lot of questions there. And at the same time, there is a lot of pressure on Rishabh as well. Being a leader, not just as a player, but even being a captain, to lead a franchise where there have been a lot of talks, which has already started from the first game onwards. And I am sure he is very calm and he is very composed. But at the same time, when you are leading a big franchise, there is a lot of pressure on you as a player.”
