New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is set to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Williamson is ‘not close’ to a return
Charania broke the news on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, uttering the dreaded words no Pelicans fan wanted to hear in light of the team’s disappointing start to the season.
Williamson, who hasn’t played in a month and has featured just six times this season, is dealing with a ‘chronic issue’ in his hamstring which has plagued him for the last few years.
“It is tough for Zion because he came into the season, he was the lightest he’s weighed since his rookie year, he came in great shape, and to have him hurt already, that hamstring has been a chronic issue for him, he’s had multiple hamstring strains over the last few years, he can’t catch a break.”

Injury woes continue to dominate the story of Williamson’s promising NBA career
As soon as the Pelicans drafted Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 draft, he became an instant phenomenon in the NBA and around the world.
He was already one of the highest profile college athletes of all-time before entering the league, but staying on the floor has been his biggest issue.
Williamson was named to the All-Rookie First Team in his debut season and has two All-Star honors to his name, but the 24-year-old is destined for much bigger and better things than that.
When healthy, he’s proved himself as one of the most gifted and dominant scorers in the league – he averaged 27 a night in his second year while playing 61 games in the regular season.
