‘Energised’ Man United striker credits new boss Amorim’s ‘great attitude’

Marcus Rashford has praised Ruben Amorim’s influence on Manchester United’s “happy” players after scoring twice in the new manager’s first Premier League win of his tenure.

Striker Rashford scored his first league goals at Old Trafford since March to help the 20-time champions continue their seven-match unbeaten run since Erik ten Hag’s dismissal with a 4-0 victory over Everton.

“He has come in at a very busy period but hopefully we can keep growing the connection and keep getting stronger,” Rashford told Sky Sports.

“He has come in with a great attitude and that’s passed on to the players. We are happy. Playing at this historic stadium is always an amazing feeling.

“We want to find consistency in the way we play and our results. That is the main focus. It’s early on but I feel energised and ready for the next game.”

Man United results

United won three of their first 12 matches of the season in the Premier League and Champions League, heralding the end of Ten Hag’s patchy reign after more than two years.

Their spike in form began with three wins and a draw under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim control before Amorim drew his first match at the club last Sunday, Rashford scoring in the second minute of a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

The former England international came off the bench and missed a chance in their 3-2 home win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday but started against the Toffees, striking from Bruno Fernandes’ first-half corner before slotting in from Amad Diallo’s pass within 30 seconds of the restart.

Joshua Zirkzee joined Rashford in scoring twice, helping to ensure United have scored as many goals in four days as they did across their final six matches under Ten Hag.

Arsenal vs Man United: Rashford hopeful

They now face their toughest test under the Portuguese at Arsenal on Wednesday (8.15pm GMT), when victory could send them sixth.

The second-placed Gunners are six points above United and have won three consecutive games in all competitions, including a 5-1 away thrashing of Amorim’s former club, Sporting, in the Champions League.

“We have to back this performance up and hopefully we win in the week,” Rashford said, calling their latest win a “nice result”. “That is the aim for all of us. Even when you are at your best, you have to push and improve.”
