Chelsea are preparing a marquee offer to sign a Premier League star this summer, after a claim that he’d be interested in joining Enzo Maresca’s side.
Chelsea targeting new midfielder for Maresca
According to some reports in January, Maresca was very eager to bring in a senior midfielder over the winter, but Chelsea instead opted to sign 19-year-old Mathis Amougou in a £12 million deal from Saint-Étienne.

The youngster is a temporary stop-gap to reinforce Maresca’s options before he heads out on loan to Strasbourg for the 2025/2026 campaign, according to Fabrizio Romano, with Amougou seen as one for the future at Chelsea beyond next year.
Taking this into account, there are reports that the west Londoners are actively looking to sign another senior midfielder in the summer, with Roméo Lavia proving unreliable when it comes to injuries since joining Chelsea from Southampton.

Barcelona’s Marc Casado has been subject to an approach from Chelsea, according to Spanish news outlet Cadena SER, while it is also believed that his Catalan teammate Frenkie de Jong is being floated to Maresca by intermediaries.
Even Gavi is attracting serious interest from Chelsea ahead of the summer window, but closer to home, Man United starlet Kobbie Mainoo remains high on BlueCo’s radar after they reportedly pondered a move in January.
The 19-year-old is one of Ruben Amorim’s key stars at Old Trafford, but his reported £20,000-per-week wages hardly reflect such a pivotal player. This contract expires in 2027, with talks widely claimed to have started over fresh, more lucrative terms.
However, there is yet to be an agreement over the teenager’s stay, with Chelsea lurking in the background and maintaining their interest ahead of next season.
TEAMtalk shared news earlier this week that Mainoo is keen on joining Chelsea if he were to depart Old Trafford later this year, with another update now coming to light.
Chelsea preparing £67 million bid for Kobbie Mainoo
According to a report from Spain, Chelsea are now preparing a £67 million offer to sign Mainoo from United, with concerns surrounding Lavia’s fitness apparently motivating the west Londoners to “launch” a significant bid for the England international.
Maresca’s side view the teenage sensation as a player who’d bring much-needed creativity and balance to their engine room. United, of course, are reluctant to sell Mainoo, but financial pressures could force their hand as the players’ agents push for a major pay rise.
Other reports claim the Red Devils could demand as much as £100 million for his services, so Chelsea could need to raise their offer.
“Read a few comparisons between me and this kid last week… don’t waste your time, he is 10 times the player I was at 19,” said United legend Paul Scholes last season.
“Just love the way he receives the ball, the calmness, the awareness of what’s around him and of course big goals in big games. This boy is special.”
