Bangladesh will be desperate to open their account in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 when they take on New Zealand. It will be the sixth game of the tournament and is scheduled to be played on Monday (February 24) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.
Bangladesh’s campaign did not start on a good note. They suffered a 6-wicket loss against India in their tournament opener. Batting first, Bangladesh were reeling at 35/5 at one stage before a century from Towhid Hridoy propelled them to a competitive total of 228 runs.
In reply, India rode on Shubman Gill’s unbeaten ton to chase down the total inside 47 overs. The upcoming game is a must-win clash for Bangladesh as a loss will all but end their chances of qualifying for the semifinals. So ahead of the game, we are taking a look at the Bangladesh Playing 11.
Bangladesh Playing 11 vs New Zealand – ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Match 6:
Openers: Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar
Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar are set to be the openers in the Bangladesh Playing 11 for the upcoming game. Even though both the players failed to impress in the previous game, they are likely to retain their spots in the Bangladesh Playing 11.
Both Hasan and Sarkar will be desperate to turn things around and give their team a good start in the crucial game against New Zealand. Hasan got the start against India but could not convert it into a big score and departed for 25. On the other hand, Sarkar could not even open his account.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain
With Bangladesh on the verge of getting knocked out from the Champions Trophy, the onus will be on their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to lead the side from the front in the upcoming game. Shanto had a disappointing outing in the last game against India as he was out for a duck and will look to score big against New Zealand.
Towhid Hridoy was the star with the bat for Bangladesh in the last game. The right-handed batsman batted bravely and fought cramps as he became the first-ever Bangladesh player to score a century against India in an ICC competition.
He is expected to recover fully before the game against New Zealand and retain his spot in the Bangladesh Playing 11 vs New Zealand. Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim also failed to impress against India. The experienced batter was out for a duck and will be keen to make amends in the upcoming game.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz did not have the best of outings with the bat either as he was out for only 5. With the ball, Mehidy bowled an economical spell, conceding 37 runs in 10 overs although he could not take a wicket.
Jaker Ali had a good outing with the bat in the last game. He and Hridoy rescued Bangladesh after they were reduced to 35/5. The duo shared a record-breaking stand of 154 runs before Jaker was out for 68.
Rishad Hossain scored 18 runs with the help of a four and two sixes. With the ball, he was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs off 10 overs.
Bowlers: Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana
Bangladesh are likely to make one change to their bowling lineup for the must-win clash. Tanzim Hasan Sakib is expected to make way for Nahid Rana in the Bangladesh Playing 11.
Nahid can bowl over 140 kmph mark consistently and Bangladesh would be hoping he delivers with the ball. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman are expected to retain their spots in the Bangladesh Playing 11.
