A £58k-a-week star is determined to sign for Chelsea, and he has now sent a threat to his club in order to try and seal a move to Stamford Bridge, according to a report.
Blues’ Club World Cup campaign set to get underway soon
As a result of their participation in the upcoming Club World Cup, the Blues aren’t going to get much rest this summer, with their opening fixture against Los Angeles FC set to take place in just one week’s time.
With up to £97m on the line in prize money in the new-look competition, it is no surprise the west Londoners are looking to take the competition seriously, and Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed two players are in line to join prior to their opening game.
Yesterday, it was revealed the deal for Mike Maignan is now edging closer to completion, although the west Londoners are unwilling to spend big on the goalkeeper, given his age, having initially submitted a €15m (£13m) offer.
With AC Milan valuing the goalkeeper at £25m, the two clubs could still be some way apart, and Maignan may now be fearful that a deal will not go through, with a report from L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) revealing he is determined to move to Stamford Bridge.
As such, the Frenchman has sent a threat to his current employers via his agents, stating he will leave on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract next summer if Milan don’t facilitate a move to Chelsea.
A fee is still being negotiated, with the Blues eager to seal a deal prior to flying to the USA for the Club World Cup.
“Quick” Maignan could be Sanchez upgrade
The £58k-a-week shot-stopper has been Milan’s first-choice goalkeeper for quite some time, making 163 appearances for the Italian club, during which time he has received very high praise from Alisson.
The Liverpool goalkeeper said: “He is physical, quick, he has clean technique. He is very strong. He is one of the best in the world.”

Chelsea eyeing £70m Ekitike alternative who’s a bigger talent than Delap
Despite having already signed Liam Delap for £30m, Chelsea are interested in another “superb” striker to bolster Enzo Maresca’s attacking options.
Alisson’s belief that the 29-year-old is among the goalkeeping elite is a clear sign he could be a real upgrade on Robert Sanchez, who was far too error-prone in the Premier League last season, making five mistakes leading to goals.
As such, it is exciting news that Maignan is eager to seal a move to Stamford Bridge, and the hope will be that Milan choose to lower their asking price, in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
