RALEIGH, N.C. — Twenty returning players and 20 newcomers on a 40-man fall roster seems like the kind of balance needed to maintain program momentum. Say, the type of momentum gained from College World Series appearances two of the last four years or nine straight seasons of 36 wins or more. NC State head coach Elliott Avent says that his team’s strengths, at least initially, in 2025 will be in pitching and defense. And that’s understandable, given the volume of everyday talent from last year’s lineup that either graduated or ascended to the pro ranks.
